The title “Days of Future Past” is taken from the two-issue Uncanny X-Men comic book storyline written in 1981 by legendary X-Men writer/artist team Chris Claremont and John Byrne.

In the story, the X-Men are trying to stop the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants (led by Mystique) from killing an anti-mutant political figure named Senator Robert Kelly. This pivotal event creates a separate timeline in which the X-Men fail to stop the Kelly assassination, and as a result, mutants are hunted, imprisoned and exterminated by humanity. One X-Man from that future dystopia manages to travel back in time and warn the present day X-Men, who ultimately stop the assassination (though the two timelines both remain in existence).

~ Dengan tema time travel dan multiple timelines, Sequel dari X Men First Class ini berpotensi untuk dapat mereduksi dan menjadi jawaban yang jelas mengenai perbedaan, ataupun plot antara X Men First Class dengan 3 Film X Men sebelumnya, serta kemungkinan menarik dari "menyatu"nya para karakter X Men yang ada dalam film X Men First Class dengan Karakter2 yang ada di Film X Men sebelumnya.

Bryan Singer selaku produser menjelaskan, meski mengambil aspek penting dari Komik “Days of Future Past”, ia dan Simon Kinberg sang penulis naskah, juga akan memasukkan hal baru dalam film ini.

Shooting film ini direncakan akan dimulai awal tahun depan, salah satunya juga untuk menghindari schedule conflict salah satu bintangnya, Jennifer Lawrence yang juga tengah disibukkan dengan sequel Hunger Games.

Rencananya X Men: Days of Future Past akan ditayangkan pada Summer Tahun 2014 di US sana..
